Details

By 1905 The German Empire adopted the 8mm (7.92x57mm) Mauser Spitzer cartridge as its standard military rifle round. From that point on, it served though both World Wars. In fact, in World War II it is the only rifle round to have served on both sides. Having been the military round of numerous nations, it is also common as a hunting round of medium sized game on all continents: its relatively heavy bullet weight out of high twist barrels offers considerable penetration. The 196 grain jacketed, soft point, cutting edge (SPCE) bullet has a muzzle velocity of 2591 feet per second with 2922 foot pounds behind it. The cutting edge bullet offers controlled expansion of the bullet tip, creating a mushroom tip while keeping the core of the bullet intact so the energy is not dispersed before deep penetration can occur. It is a premium hunting round.

The Czech munitions maker Sellier & Bellot has been making bullets and components since the 1820's and to date is a recognized quality producer that American sports shooters have come to appreciate. S&B is perhaps the most popular maker of soft point cutting edge bullets. That along with brass cases with boxer primers make this a particularly valuable product to 8mm sport shooters.
