410 Ammo Shells

The .410 bore is the lowest-caliber shotshell size commonly used in the US. Sometimes erroneously referred to as the "410 gauge," the .410 bore is named for its caliber and fires a relatively light payload. Since .410 bore ammo produces relatively light recoil and is not extremely destructive, it is a good choice for target training and small game hunting.

.410 bore ammunition usually comes in 2-1/2" or 3" varieties and fires about half an ounce of shot at a muzzle velocity of about 1,200 feet per second. While generally not considered ideal for defensive use due to its limited penetration, .410 bore ammo for personal protection has been developed by companies such as Hornady. Other manufacturers of .410 shells include Sellier & Bellot, NobelSport, and most major American producers.
