8mm Mauser Ammo

The 8mm Mauser, also known as the 7.92x57mm Mauser and the 8x57 IS, served as the service cartridge of the German military from 1905 through both world wars. However, 8mm Mauser ammo was also used by the British, Polish, and Chinese forces on the Allied side in these conflicts as well. This cartridge is powerful and delivers excellent long-range performance, advantages that have helped it retain popularity into the present for hunting deer, boar, and even bear.

A typical round of 8mm Mauser ammo fires a heavy 180-200 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of about 2,700 feet per second. The weight of the bullets gives this caliber strong penetration, making it particularly effective against larger animals.

Unlike most cartridges of its generation, the 8mm Mauser was employed for military purposes into the 21st century; many former Yugoslav countries used it in Zastava M76 sniper rifles and M53 machine guns.
