As a parent case, the 30-03 Springfield spawned several sporting cartridges that have gone on to become more successful. Obviously the .30-06 Springfield, but in 1925, Winchester brought out their child of the -03: the .270 Winchester. While slow to be adopted, its acceptance and recognized versatility bloomed after World War II. Depending on loads and bullet weight, the cartridge is capable of dealing with elk or moose at over 300 yards or for varmint hunting and silhouette shooting out to much further.

This 130 grain soft point, Core Lokt bullet by Remington exits the muzzle at 3060 ft per sec with 2702 ft lbs of energy. This is a reliable deer round with the potential for larger game at medium range: the Core Lokt bullet offers premium accuracy with expansion into the target without shedding its mass for proven penetration.
