Details

Often considered a necked down descendent of the .40 Smith & Wesson, the .357 Sig is actually another child of the 10mm Auto since its case is still a fraction longer than the .40. This Sig cartridge was introduced in 1994 and the first commercial bottle necked pistol cartridge in decades. The goal was to duplicate the .357 Magnum ballistics but out of a high capacity semi auto. Because of the extra machining involved, it never took off in widespread law enforcement of military arsenals, but there are agencies that fully appreciate the capabilities of this high-performance round. The U.S. Secret Service, for example, places considerable faith in the caliber’s performance. The 147 grain jacketed hollow point XTP bullet by Hornady has a muzzle velocity of 1225 feet per second with 490 foot pounds of energy. This is among the best of Hornady’s impressive line of personal defense rounds.

The XTP, or Extreme Terminal Performance, bullet by Hornady pays particular attention to the bullet retaining its energy by expanding into the target. Trusted by professional law enforcement and private carriers, Hornady is the name that is trusted and provide not only the standards but the benchmarks of defense ammunition performance.
