Introduced in 1895, the Winchester .30-30 caliber was the first of that company’s smokeless powder rifle rounds. Specifically designed for the model 1894 rifle and carbine series, it quickly became the quintessential deer and hunting round throughout much of North America. It remains so to this day as the caliber of the rifle at home in the saddle, truck or by the door as well as on the hunt. The 160 grain flex tip (FTX) bullet by Hornady has a muzzle velocity of 2400 feet per second with 2046 foot pounds of energy. It is ideal for use, especially against dangerous game such as boar, as the FTX bullet has superior ballistics and excellent penetration and expansion in the target. Further, the polymer tip helps improve safety in tubular magazines were a solid tip may set off the primer of the cartridge in front of it in the mag.
