The 454 Casull. The 460 S&W Magnum. The 500 S&W Magnum. These are all handgun cartridges for weak little babies. A true boss only fires 25 ACP – a round which doesn’t need “power” in order to be great.
Maybe don’t use this ammo by Fiocchi for defense against great bears, though. Its 50 grain bullet only comes out of the barrel with 71 ft lbs of kinetic energy to its name. On the plus side, the bear might not even realize that you shot it (but if it does, then you’d better have some really good prayers memorized). The full metal jacket also won’t expand if it strikes soft tissue (although it probably wouldn’t have expanded even if it were a JHP). The FMJ is steel-free, however, so there’s that!
These little cartridges’ new brass cases ought to treat any semi-automatic to a real smooth cycle, and their noncorrosive Boxer primers make them fit for a truly tiny handloading project.
