Israeli Military Industries developed 9x21mm ammo as a substitute pistol caliber in countries where standard “military” calibers are prohibited for civilian use. While the overall dimensions of the cartridge are similar to the 9x19 Luger, the bullet sits deeper into the slightly elongated case, this in turn gives it the potential to generate slightly higher pressures as well when compared to range luger ammunition. Primarily used for target and competitive shooting purposes, and while not very popular in the US where it is known as the 9mm IMI and the 9x21 Win (in 124gr), it is a popular choice with competitive shooters elsewhere in the world and is an interesting alternative to the ubiquitous even common, 9mm Parabellum. Fiocchi’s 123 grain full metal jacketed round has a muzzle velocity of 1220 feet per second with 380+ foot pounds of energy. This is perfect for the target pistols that it was designed for.
