Details

Engineered with no small amount of input from none other than John M. Browning, the .30 WCF round was introduced in 1895 to give the famous lever action rifle making company its first of the small caliber, smokeless powder rounds. Today, the .30-30 remains one of the few survivors of from the bottle necked, rimmed cases with numerous companies offering rifles in the caliber. This is because it is one of the most common all-purpose cartridges, used for deer hunting down to varmint and pest control in the US. The 170 grain bonded hollow point bullet by Winchester has a muzzle velocity of 2200 feet per second with 1827 foot pounds of energy. This is a cartridge loaded towards the upper edge of the cartridge’s capabilities making it well suited for dropping charging boar or deer without having to track and potentially lose fill for the meat freezer.

Winchester may be a name that is popular for dominating the Old West but there is nothing about their modern manufacturing or production facilities that suggests “antiquated.” Their reloadable cases and new bullet designs are keeping pace with the developments of the high performance research that other companies charge premium for, yet the factory in Clayton, Missouri can turn out at a cost without breaking the hunting budget this year.
