Here is what’s great about Tula ammunition: It contains a whole lot of steel. That makes it far more affordable than ammo which contains a whole lot of copper and brass. This 308 Win cartridge’s 150 grain FMJ projectile has what is known as a “bimetal” jacket. It’s almost completely made out of steel, with a very thin copper exterior layer. This cartridge’s case is also made out of pure steel.

Here’s the downside when it comes to Tula ammunition: It contains a whole lot of steel. The aforementioned bimetal jacket will attract a magnet, so you can’t fire this 308 wherever magnetic ammo is banned. Steel cases aren’t reloadable without special equipment and more patience than it’s worth, and they’re also inclined to accelerate fouling of the action.

Tula’s steel cases are coated with polymer for limited protection against corrosion. Slick polymer also makes the rounds flow more smoothly through a semi-auto. Tula utilizes economical Berdan primers when they load ammo, but they’re every bit as non-corrosive as what you should expect from the big American brands.
