In 2002, as the US military became increasingly involved in more areas around the world, it developed an interest in updating the 5.56 NATO chambered M4 rifles in service to a heavier, harder hitting caliber. The 6.8 Remington Special Purpose Carbine (SPC) was one solution that made it into limited service release. Designed to be a direct competitor with the ubiquitous 7.62x39 Russian round with better accuracy it could be fired on current service rifles by only replacing the upper receiver. The cost to benefits ratio, however, was insufficient to the minds of the military for widespread deployment. Nevertheless, the round has found acceptance among special operators as well as sportsmen looking for a more potent cartridge for their own AR style rifles. The 110 grain full metal jacket round by Sellier & Bellot has a muzzle velocity of 2549 feet per second with 1500+ foot pounds of energy. It s designed for target shooting and range training.

Sellier & Bellot (S&B) is among the oldest and most recognized of European munitions manufacturing as it was started in the 1820s. US shooters have become increasingly familiar with the brand as it offers bullet types for everything from target shooting to Safari hunting of dangerous game: it is that trusted. S&B brass is also reloadable for additional value to those who shoot this particular caliber.
