In 1930, the Soviets decided to start manufacturing their own semi automatic pistol, up to that time, they were still using their 1895 Nagant pistol or purchasing heavily from other nations. The result was the 1930 Tokarev chambered in its own caliber, 7.62x25 Tokarev. While physically similar to the 7.63 Mauser, so much so that both rounds will chamber and fire in firearms chambered in either caliber, the Tokarev is considerably hotter and is recommended it NOT be used in that antique 96 Mauser "Broomhandle." The bottlenecked 7.62 achieves considerable energy: 1720+ feet per second from the muzzle with 560 foot pounds of energy. The 85 grain full metal jacket round is ideal for target shooting and range training with that old TT-30 or any of its clones.

PRVI started producing ammunition in the 1920's for the then new nation of Yugoslavia. During the German occupation of World War II parts of the manufacturing equipment was acquired by Tito's resistance fighters, a fact PRVI is so proud of they have since added Partizan to their brand name. They still provide ammunition for the Serbian military – better proof of reliability is hard to find – and the ammunition is fully reloadable. Ammunition in this caliber is not always easy to find, but it FAR surpasses any comblock military surplus.
