This cartridge is outfitted with the 40 S&W’s lighter 165 grain bullet. That’s optimal if you’d prefer to engage a threat with a quadruple-digit muzzle velocity and ensuing flat trajectory. This bullet hits a target at close range with nearly 400 ft lbs of muzzle energy, which no one would argue is inadequate for personal protection, and as a JHP it’s designed to expand fast and wide to accelerate its takedown power. Symmetrical notches placed around the nose cavity’s rim promote surer, more uniform expansion.
