As an “upsized” caliber intended for the government issue M4 carbine, the .300 Blackout was meant to duplicate the ballistic results of the Soviet designed, and caliber of choice for many of America’s adversaries, 7.62x39 cartridge. Though never officially put into US military service, the caliber has proven wildly popular with custom AR builders, especially in use with short barreled rifles and pistols. The .300 has also proven very reliable, not only when fired out of shorter barrels but especially even when fired out of standard 5.56/.223 magazines. Magtech’s 115 grain flat based hollow point bullet has a muzzle velocity of 2280 feet per second with 1328 foot pounds of energy. Like its FMJ variant, this cartridge can be used for range training, target shooting and firearms familiarity, but it is also designed for personal defense.
