Details

The .40 Smith & Wesson was introduced in 1990 as a cooperative effort between Federal and S&W to make the 10mm Auto less recoil potent. The 10 was briefly adopted as the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s duty round but had to be replaced as it was too powerful for too many agents. The .40 was fires the same bullet as the 10mm but out of a shorter case delivering more ballistic knock down energy than the earlier 9mm duty issue rounds. The FBI continued to use the caliber for twenty seven years, and while returning to the 9mm, the caliber is well appreciated by law enforcement and private shooters alike. The 180 grain jacketed hollow point bullet by Magtech has a muzzle velocity of 990 feet per second with 310 foot pounds of energy. This is a round designed for personal defense delivering all of its energy into the target.

Magtech established itself as a provider of affordable target and training ammunition at the same time (1990) and since then has branched into other lines of purpose driven ammunition, especially for personal defense. The cases are bovver primed and reloadable for additional value to custom loaders of this versatile caliber.
