This is a 9mm +P cartridge: loaded to higher-than-standard chamber pressure, which benefits performance by flattening the bullet’s trajectory and increasing its striking energy. An overpressure load will treat you to stouter recoil and wear out your firearm’s moving parts faster, however, and it is not intended for handguns that aren’t rated to fire +P ammo.

Hornady’s eXtreme Terminal Performance jacketed hollow point bullet makes good on its name. The XTP expands reliably – even after striking its target with relatively little energy – thanks to its drawn copper-alloy jacket, which is thin around its rim. That same rim also wears symmetrical notches, which strategically weaken it to secure even more reliable expansion.

The XTP’s jacket doesn’t stop shy of its nose cavity. It fully shields the rim, which helps the bullet chamber more efficiently in a semi-automatic and avoid damage that could have resulted in narrower expansion diameter. American-made. Brass-cased. Reloadable.
