This 6.5 Creedmoor Precision Hunter cartridge by Hornady features the Nebraskan company’s best all-range hunting bullet to date: the Extremely Low Drag - eXpanding (ELD-X). Match accurate and deadly, you couldn’t ask for better when deer is the only thing on your agenda.
The ELD-X combines a hyper-concentric AMP jacket, secant ogive geometry and optimally angled boat tail with Hornady’s proprietary Heat Shield tip. The Heat Shield is made of polymer that can’t become deformed while it’s cooked by aerodynamic friction, so it always creates the perfect meplat.
The 143 grain 0.2644” ELD-X clears a 24” barrel at a velocity of 2,700 fps to establish a G1 ballistic coefficient of 0.625 (G7 0.315). That means it will deliver the minimum 1,000 ft lbs of energy recommended for whitetail up until approximately 716 yards, and also that it won’t undergo transonic destabilization until about 1,462 yards.
The ELD-X remains mostly intact following high-velocity impact courtesy of its InterLock ring, which anchors its thick jacket to its tough lead core. But no matter the ELD-X’s impact velocity, it reliably produces the wide terminal expansion which kills quickly, cleanly and humanely.
