If your sole objective is long-range accuracy, then you had better leave the FMJ bullets back at home. You need a projectile with superior mass and rotational stability – or to be more specific, you need the boat tail hollow point Match.

Hornady loads this 223 Rem cartridge with a behemoth of a .22 cal bullet. At 75 grains, its muzzle velocity out of a 24” barrel is relatively slow at 2,790 fps. The juice is well worth the squeeze, however, as such a chunky bullet excels at holding onto its momentum. Cross and vertical winds have less effect on its trajectory, too!

The BTHP Match is an insanely well-balanced bullet. Hornady’s proprietary Advanced Manufacturing Process jacket has nearly zero wall thickness variation and just as much runout. The BTHP Match’s swaged lead core is entirely voidless. And thanks to its boat tail and secant ogive projectile, the bullet evades drag to a degree that grants it a 0.395 G1 BC (approximately 0.200 G7 BC).

This is not hunting ammunition. It’ll kill varmints like guided lighting, no question about that, but the BTHP Match does not widen out after slamming into its target. You truly want terminal expansion if you’re hunting Mr. Deer.
