Are you tired of dealing with varmint attacks? That’s because your approach to dealing with them is too lax. It’s time to give them some real smacks – with this 223 Rem ammo, loaded with the V-MAX!
Fiocchi loaded this ammo, but the V-MAX is made by Hornady. It is the Nebraskan company’s most popular varmint hunting bullet thanks in large part to its awesome accuracy. Despite weighing only 50 grains, this round’s V-MAX has a 0.242 G1 BC – roughly equal to that of a normal 55 grain FMJ. That means if you zero in at 100 yards (with 0.48” high sights), drop at 200 yards would be a paltry -2.7”.
The V-MAX’s flat trajectory isn’t Nebraskan magic. Well, it is, in a way, but it’s really the product of the V-MAX’s match-grade AMP jacket, slipstream profile, balanced swaged lead core, and aerodynamic polymer tip. That tip’s tail stops just short of touching the bottom of the V-MAX’s precision nose cavity. On impact it builds up enough momentum to turn the bullet’s frontal section into a hailstorm of jagged lead and copper fragments. The V-MAX still expands at velocities as low as 1,600 fps, which this round ought to do until approximately 490 yards.
All of Fiocchi’s finest components have come out to play, including reloadable brass cases and primers so sensitive that they always cry at the end of The Notebook. We haven’t seen that movie, but we’ve heard it’s super emotional.
