This cartridge is outfitted with a 55 grain soft point projectile, with a 3,220 fps muzzle velocity that gives it in-flight ballistic performance comparable (but not identical) to an everyday M193 spec 55gr FMJ target load. The SP bullet does not have a bonded jacket, although it still manages to retain over 90% of its weight after striking a block of ballistic gel at a range of 10’ (Federal used an M4 with a 14.5” barrel to produce that datum). If the ballistic gel is protected by heavy clothing, the SP’s weight retention is still over 80% under the same conditions. The SP exhibits significant terminal expansion under either circumstances.

This ammunition is loaded with military-grade cases, which feature thicker brass and crimped primers for increased holding ability. The cases are reloadable, provided you don’t mind the extra step of fussing around with primer crimps. This ammo is also loaded with propellant that is formulated to minimize muzzle flash, which serves to conserve the shooter’s visual acuity should they ever have to open fire at night or in a dark indoor environment.
