Details

The 38 Special isn’t the most powerful revolver cartridge – not by a mile – but boy has it ever got a pedigree! If you’re looking for the same kind of ammo you could have picked up a hundred years ago, then Federal has loaded to just the classic specs you’re after!

This cartridge has a 158 grain bullet. At that weight, it’s due to erupt out of a 4” vented test barrel at a velocity of 770 fps (the test barrel is vented to simulate the barrel-cylinder gap in a revolver). The lead round nose bullet is entirely unjacketed. Sure, it’ll foul up a barrel a little quicker than an FMJ, but if you’re shooting steel or targets set up in front of rocks then you’ll appreciate an LRN’s inability to deflect copper shrapnel back at the firing line. No one likes getting hit by copper shrapnel. Go figure.

Federal’s American Eagle label ammo is meant for high-volume range training and target shootery, but it still has the Minnesotan company’s usual quality components: clean-burning powder, noncorrosive Boxer primers, and virgin brass cases that can be handloaded again and again.
