Details
Arsenal was founded in 1878 to manufacture parts and ammo for artillery guns. Today they are the oldest arms manufacturer in Bulgaria, where they produce everything from mortar bombs to hand grenades to rocket launcher rounds.
Arsenal also produces plenty of small arms ammunition for international export. Global Ordnance, a veteran-owned company headquartered in the Sunshine State, is now bringing Arsenal’s 7.62x39 ammo to the USA.
This Bulgarian-made steel-cased AK-47 ammo is of noticeably higher quality than most Russian-made alternatives. Arsenal’s exacting quality assurance protocol yields generally more reliable cartridges – with sealed case mouths and non-corrosive Berdan primers to boot.
But like Russian ammo, these cartridges do have magnetic projectiles. The FMJs’ economical bimetal jackets make them hard and deformation resistant, but those jackets are nearly entirely comprised of steel.
Steel cases are another cost-saving feature, but once they’ve been fired they’re of no use to reloading enthusiasts. Rigid steel cases are also less effective at sealing off a rifle’s chamber during ignition, so expect faster fouling of the action than if you had gone with costlier brass cases.
