While 5.56 rifle ammo can be tweaked to perform out to long ranges out of specialty barrels and the like, the overwhelming majority of AR rifles in circulation are manufactured with 1:8 or 1:9 twist barrels, making them more suited for lighter, faster bullets. Unsurprisingly, there is also a desire by many of said rifle owners to have a precision performing cartridge to reach out to their gun’s maximum performance (300-600 yards). Barnes’ 52 grain open tip match bullet answers their need in a precision bullet designed for the “standard issue” AR barrel. With a muzzle velocity of 3200 feet per second with 1182 foot pounds of energy. Whether it be a friendly wager or a marksmanship competition, these lightweight OTM bullets fulfill the long-range accuracy needs of any AR owner. Note: NOT for use in .223 Remington chambers.

The Barnes Precision line was introduced in 2015 and became such a success among the law enforcement and military circles that had access to it, distribution was broadened to the civilian commercial market where competitive shooters have selected it for everything from casual range training to professional match shooting. Completed cartridges such as these still offer reloading value after the fact with Barnes OTM bullets, primers and powder available individually.
