Created out of the .222 cartridge, there can be no argument that .223 Remington ammo has proven itself more than just another varmint caliber. Purpose driven development for the round concluded in 1964 with its adoption as the new US military rifle round, increasing a soldier’s ammo capacity considerably. Field experience showed the round could be quite devastating given the right bullet weight and rifle barrel twist.
