Details

Produced in 1912 for Savage Arms, the 5.6x52mm rimmed cartridge was known in the USA as the .22 High Power. It was among the first of the .22 hi velocity game loads capable of taking game up to 400 pounds in America, Asia and Africa where it also earned the nickname the .22 Imp. Despite its small size, it is still used in Europe for small sized deer and in the US where it is legal to do so. However, more modern rounds, such as the .243 Winchester, have eclipsed this rimmed cartridge. The use of the round continues for shooters of high end Drilling and other combo rifles has kept the cartridge in limited production by companies such as Sellier & Bellot. The 70 grain soft point bullet has a muzzle velocity of 3100 feet per second with 1493 foot pounds. While superseded by more modern rounds, S&B’s evident commitment to continued production shows the round to be still a favored option with older firearms enthusiasts.

Founded in the 1820’s, the Czech munitions producer Sellier & Bellot is one of the few manufacturers of rare and uncommon calibers such as the 5.6x52r. Boxer primed reloadable cases also provide additional value to shooters of this caliber.
