Details

Since its introduction in 1887 by Stevens Arms, the .22 Long Rifle is well established as a versatile cartridge that has been long appreciated for the ability to take on multiple purposes: target shooting, firearms training, pest control, even self-defense. Capabilities of the cartridge are truly only limited by the bullet type and powder charge.

Aguila’s super colibri, lead 20 grain bullet has a muzzle velocity of 500 feet per second with 11 foot pounds of energy. This is virtually an exclusively target and training round with virtually no report or recoil as it is powered by little more than the primer. It is also not ideal for semi-automatic actions, as it will not generate enough energy to cycle the actions. Out of manual action rifles or revolvers, however, it is an accurate, close range round.

Aguila munitions was established in Mexico in 1961. In the time since, it is recognized as a premium manufacturer of sporting, and especially rimfire ammunition. Aguila is also a sole maker of several proprietary rounds, such as the colibri which is also a potential round for indoor ranges – with proper ventilation. Production and distribution is done in cooperation with Remington Arms.

Best back yard plinker

  • Quality
These rounds are super quiet. My neighbors have no clue we are shooting .22 rifles in the back yards in suburbia. The sound of the hammer hitting the receiver is louder than the report. They are safe to shoot in a back yard but still dangerous; I wouldn't want to get hit with them. However, the rounds are powerful enough to penetrate a full soda can but not powerful enough to clear the soda can and a picket fence. The 20 grain projectile was designed as a "parlour gun," to be shot yes, indoors at a dart board or target. I'd say they are safe enough to be used indoors providing you had a 2 inch wood block backstop but the fumes we now know are dangerous. So have fun, OUTDOORS, with these rounds. If you can find them.
