Russian “AK food” has a reputation for being moderately acceptable on accuracy and fully dependable on performance. While the accuracy issue is truthfully variable given many other factors: a precision firearm can certainly squeeze impressive results out of the cartridge, its use all over the world and battle field reputation leaves the round with an association of being hard hitting and reliable in performing. Available in several bullet weights, the 124 grain comes close to the original mil specs while adding the max weight for stability. Some may question the actual value of such a marginal increase, but it cannot hurt. These fmj rounds have a muzzle velocity of 2330 ft per sec carried by 1600+ ft lbs. They are designed for use in military style firearms of the Russian design that has been copied all over the world and are perfect for training or simply keeping in storage for a “JIC” event.

Since the cartridge’s introduction in 1943, the Tula Arsenal and Cartridge works have been intimately involved with its manufacture and maintaining the reputation for consistent performance under all sorts of environmental distress. The fact that the cartridge is still selected for main line use three quarters of a century later suggests more than a modicum of success. Berdan primed steel cases are meant for guaranteed performance no matter the shelf life. As such, the non-corrosive 1k piece case is ideal for putting into personal or group reserves.
