Details

Because the .38 Winchester and 7.62x51/NATO are seen as interchangeable, the branding can sometimes be confusing to novice shooters. Introduced in the early 1950’s both rounds have become accepted in military and commercial circles throughout the world. The M118 bullet is the result of the US military’s search for a performance round in their various sniper, or precision, shooting teams. A mix of learned cartridge designs with a similar boat tailed bullet that used to be loaded in the GI .30-06 Springfield, the M118 has become a standard competition round for civilian marksmanship and military field use.

This 7.62x51 ammo loaded with 175 grain bullets by Lake City has a muzzle velocity of approximately 2580 feet per second with up to 2600 foot pounds of energy. This is a match ready cartridge in both civilian and military style firearms.

Lake City ammunition is one of the primary makers for the US military, using the same militaries used all over the world by America’s armed forces. These XM118 cartridges have failed to meet US inspection requirements (manufacturing blemishes), but are still serviceable for use outside the military. Reloadable cases round out the valuable opportunity to have and utilize what is otherwise government issue ammunition.
