Details

Winchester’s Defender label 410 Bore ammunition is specialized for short-range personal protection with a Taurus Judge or S&W Governor – which is not to say that it wouldn’t turn a pump-action shotgun into a capable tool for home defense, too.

This shell is somewhat uniquely loaded with two different types of projectiles. First to exit the barrel are three “Defense Discs,” which are shaped like large watch batteries. Following up are 12 individual pellets of BB shot (each 0.18” in diameter). Both types of projectiles are copper-plated, which strengthens them against deformation that could otherwise have (A) weakened pattern density, and (B) limited penetration depth. The shell’s entire shot column weighs over 300 grains (0.69 ounces), which gives it a collective muzzle velocity in excess of 375 ft lbs.

This shell’s 750 fps muzzle velocity may seem unusually low, but that is only because Winchester recorded it with a revolver-length barrel. (A shotgun will produce a significantly higher muzzle velocity.) This ammo’s hulls feature sensitive primers, black oxide high-base heads, and tapered rims that promote reliable functionality in all brands and styles of 410 Bore firearms.
