Are you looking for special 12 Gauge ammo for hunting, home defense, and happy-time target shooting? Good! We had hoped to address a customer who’s interested in purchasing this Sellier & Bellot ammunition when we began writing this product description a few seconds ago.

There’s no 00 buckshot here. This shell is loaded with #1 buck, which is a couple of sizes down on the scale of buckshot. A piece of #1 buck is 0.30” in diameter instead of 0.33”, and weighs around 40.5 grains instead of 53.8.

When they’re accelerated to a muzzle velocity of 1,214 fps, a dozen pieces of #1 buck are due to hit a 14-yard target with more than 1,300 ft lbs of combined energy. That’ll certainly do the trick on a whitetail. But because #1 buck is lighter than its more common counterpart, it hits with relatively less force at the same velocity. That predisposes it toward shallower penetration, which equates to less meat damage while you’re hunting wild game. It also represents less risk of over-penetration while you’re defending the castle.
