Sellier & Bellot 12 Gauge - 2-3/4" 12 Pellets 00 Buckshot - 250 Rounds

DANG. Usually you see a 2-3/4” 12 Gauge 00 buck load and assume it’s packed with eight, maybe nine pieces of shot, tops. But Sellier & Bellot of the Czech Republic didn’t load this shell to meet your expectations. They loaded it to blow you (or, more accurately, your target) away, because it is charged up with one dozen angry lead balls.

Obviously Sellier & Bellot couldn’t put too much powder in this shell without (A) removing some shot to make space for it, or (B) risking over-pressurization. That said, its 1,181 fps muzzle velocity is all it needs to give its shot column a combined muzzle energy of nearly 1,700 ft lbs. Each pellet strikes with relatively less force than it would have had it achieved a substantially higher muzzle velocity, which poses a reduced risk of over-penetration during a home defense scenario (although that risk is always present). And because there are so many pellets, you significantly up your chances of striking and neutralizing the target with each shot.
