50 AE Ammo

A hard-hitting magnum cartridge used in both semi-automatic handguns and revolvers, the .50 Action Express excels at hunting and target applications where bulk and recoil are less of a concern. It can also be used to defend against bears and other predators. The .50 AE was introduced in 1988 and uses large pistol primers.

A typical .50 AE load fires a heavy 300 grain bullet at a muzzle velocity of about 1,500 feet per second. With expanding soft or hollow point bullets, this combination results in very strong expansion and penetration that can bring down medium and large sized game at close range. Handguns firing .50 Action Express ammo include the AMT Automag, Freedom Arms Model 555, and the Magnum Research Desert Eagle.
