Silver State Armory - Soft Point - 110 Grain 6.8 SPC Ammo - 20 Rounds
US involvement in the War on Terror exposed new concerns for the standard issue 5.56 NATO round in its knock down ability against moderately hardened targets or for causing sufficient stopping power on non-critical hits. As a result, several alternative calibers were developed, including the 6.8 SPC, or Special Purpose Carbine. The intention was to provide a larger round with better terminal ballistics while retaining the AR/M16/M4 shooting platform: a simple upper transfer was all that was required. While the round delivered acceptable ballistics, it was decided not to a full scale replacement of the current 5.56 caliber. The SPC does serve in specialized units and has certainly found a home with sport shooters looking for a more potent hunting round for their AR platforms. The 110 grain soft point bullet has a muzzle velocity of 2500 feet per second with 1525 foot pounds of energy. This is an ideal round for hunting.
Silver State Armory is one of the primary manufacturers of the 6.8 SPC round ad uses state of the art manufacturing techniques for their boxer primed, reloadable brass and Nosler type bullets. For use in sport hunting with an AR, this is one of the best brand cartridges in this caliber than can be purchased.
