When Winchester introduced the .243 in 1955, it was on continuing on a trend to load narrower bullets into established cases. In this scenario, they loaded a heavy, .22 sized bullet into a necked down .308 case: the latter being introduced three years earlier and then adopted by NATO as the 7.62x51. The .243 is well known for being able to take on long range targets and varmint control with the lighter rounds and with bullets weighing 90 grains or more being suitable for most deer sized game in the Americas. It is also well liked by smaller and newer shooters for being more manageable than the larger “deer” sized calibers. The 90 soft point 90 grain bullet by Partizan leaves the muzzle at 3100 feet per second with 1910 ft pounds of energy. This is a well liked, reliable and traditional round perfectly suited for hunting and target practice: 500 rounds offers a lot of trigger time before the start of the season.

Well established for offering older calibers for shooters of Curios & Relics, PRVI has expanded their commercial production into sporting bullets for the modern hunter looking for military dependability and traditionally reliable bullet designs. The provision of reloadable cases certainly does not hurt either.
